Ivan Niebla, also known as Madera Malo, captures and displays Mexican culture through his woodwork and creative designs. With the help of his wife, Marlene, they beautifully collaborate to highlight Mexican heritage throughout Phoenix. I’ve been honored to photograph their displays.
Ivan creates prints and custom-builds his frames for display. The following gallery was displayed out in the Evolve Gallery in downtown Phoenix along with his hand-crafted woodwork. Check out IvanNiebla.com for limited edition prints.
When I was asked to photograph Ivan’s work at the Evolve Gallery, he informed me that he also planned to propose to his fiancée, Marlene. I was so excited to be part of this moment that I can't deny I shed a tear!
Tostitos Super Bowl LVII Art Installation
Tostitos set up a restaurant in the heart of downtown Phoenix during the Phoenix Super Bowl LVII in 2023, featuring several artists' installations. When Ivan called to ask me to photograph this event, I had already planned to venture downtown for the Super Bowl festivities. It was refreshing to see our Mexican heritage displayed so elegantly!
